The specialty.

Accessory structures are not ADUs. An ADU is a legal second dwelling. A guest house, pool house, studio, or workshop is a non dwelling accessory structure governed by different rules and enabling different design freedom. David has drawn more than 70 such structures since 1986.

How the process works.

Programming
2 to 4 weeks
Schematic
4 to 8 weeks
Permit
45 to 90 days
Construction
6 to 16 months

Accessory structures have distinct code requirements, smaller setback allowances, and often faster permit paths than primary residences or ADUs. We determine the right classification at the first site visit.

Common scenarios.

Poolhouses with outdoor showers and changing rooms, garden offices with library and meeting space, detached workshops and studios for artists and woodworkers, gym and wellness structures with steam room and cold plunge, and guest suites that can convert to future ADUs.

What makes this work different.

Frequently asked questions.

Accessory structures range from $65K to $340K in total project cost depending on program, size, and finish level.
